The Mi’kmaq Warriors inaugural season was a thriving success as a member of the ECJLL. Not only on the floor in making the playoffs but having the chance to display our heritage and pride this season while giving our athletes the opportunity to do what they love most - play lacrosse. Our goals are bigger than what can be seen on any scoreboard but it was about helping develop the game and the culture for Nova Scotia and Mi’kmaq youth athletes.
The Warriors athletes, sponsors and supports become a “family”. A family that supports each other through the highs and lows of life. Athletes and our youth today have much negativity surrounding them and seems to be the focus. On the floor and together the negativity disappears and we provided an outlet for positivity and allow our athletes light to shine now and hopefully in the future. The Warriors are a prime example of why sports are so important and Millbrook support of the Warriors shows there commitment to providing Mi’kmaq youth with positive outlets.
Former Truro Daily News Sports Writer Ryan Cooke believe said it best “Even if the cards are stacked against you in life, having a tight unit around you gives you a chance to shuffle the deck.” As the Mi’kmaq Warriors we will continue to strive to this goal, which will out way any achievement on the floor.
Our committee believes that the Mi’kmaq Warriors lacrosse team can be a goal for many Mi’kmaq youth in Millbrook and our players as role models to the community and the game; therefore, one of our ongoing goals is to provide an expense-free experience for our players, while also having high expectations of them as community mentors. Every player on our team is expected to be active within our supporting communities, while embracing the heritage and culture of the game. We maintain our other team goals, which include: celebrating and promoting the history, culture and heritage of the game of lacrosse; developing partnerships within the community;becoming ECJLL Champions; and, ultimately winning Nationals.
The Mi'kmaq Warriors play in the East Coast Junior Lacrosse League (ECJLL). The league is made up of 2 Halifax teams, Dartmouth, Sackville and Moncton. The Warriors will be playing their home games out of the Colchester Legion Stadium.
